Emily Coats

Counseling Intern

Pronouns: She/her

I believe therapy is a place for healing through warmth, authentic connection, and collaboration. We all carry different parts of ourselves – protective, playful, fearful, anxious – and I believe every part deserves understanding and care. I often use parts work and person-centered approaches to meet you, wherever you are in your journey, and get to know the many complex parts that make you whole.

My style is warm and down-to-earth, leaning on attachment theory, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches to support you in navigating the ups and downs of life. I enjoy working with children, teens, and young adults of all identities navigating substance use, trauma, relationship challenges, self-esteem, and anxiety.

With both professional and lived experience navigating sexuality and gender identity, I particularly enjoy working with 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. I am kink-affirming, sex-positive, and Health at Every Size oriented in my work with clients.

I believe authenticity and humor are powerful tools in the healing process, helping create space for both depth and lightness when needed. I value community and connection, and I believe that much of our healing happens in relationships – with ourselves, with others, and within safe spaces like therapy.

I am committed to understanding people within the context of their unique lived experiences, identities, and the systems that impact them. I follow anti-oppressive, feminist principles and believe in the importance of examining intersecting identities to understand you as a whole.

I joined Lamppost Wellness in January 2025.
